Web Users

Note: Only users with the "Admin" user role will have access to these functions.

What are web users?

These are users that can login to the frontend of the website in order to gain access to certain restricted sections of the site. Web users cannot login to the manager and edit the site; only manager users can do that.

Create a new web user account

Normally, web users will register their own account via the frontend of the website. However, you can also manually create a new account:

  1. Navigate to Security -> Web users.
  2. Click on the New web user link.
  3. Enter a Username for the new account. It is recommended that you stick to the convention of first name and last initial - e.g., Anne White's username would be "AnneW" (note the use of case).
  4. Leave the password options as per the defaults.
  5. Enter the user's full name. E.g., "Anne White".
  6. Carefully enter their email address and double-check it.
  7. The rest of the user details are optional.
  8. [If you have set up web permissions then scroll down to Web access permissions and check the boxes for one or more web user groups that this user should be assigned to.]
  9. Click on the Save button.
  10. The new user's password will be displayed. Copy and paste it into an email or text file immediately, so that you can supply it to the new user for their first login.
  11. Email the new user to advise of their login details:

    Website URL: http://www.yourdomain.com
    Username: [the new username]
    Password: [the new password]

Unblock a web user

Occasionally, users will forget or mistype their passwords a number of times, causing their account to be temporarily blocked for a period of 60 minutes. They can either wait until this period has elapsed or you can manually unblock their account for them.

  1. Navigate to Security -> Web Users.
  2. Click on the reset link next to Failed logins.
  3. Uncheck the Blocked checkbox and click OK.
  4. Click on the Save button.
