Internet Explorer Settings

There are various issues that you may encounter when using Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) web browser.

Following the steps listed on this page will help to reduce the likelihood of problems occurring due to your browser settings. (These settings are for IE7.)

Recommended Alternative to Internet Explorer

We recommend Firefox as an alternative to IE. Generally speaking, Firefox causes fewer browser-related problems with web applications. Firefox also offers several innovative features that make web browsing more enjoyable and productive, as well as better privacy and security options. As of version 3, Firefox has been heavily optimised and now runs much faster than either Firefox 2 or IE7; it is particularly well-optimised for modern applications that run within the browser.

Allow pop-ups for your domain when prompted

Various features rely on pop-up windows. However, the default setting in Internet Explorer is to deny pop-ups for all sites.

Therefore, when you click on certain buttons that attempt to open legitimate pop-up windows, the window will not open. Instead, you will see a yellow bar at the top of the browser window warning you that IE has blocked a pop-up window from opening. You must then click on the yellow bar and select the option to "always allow pop-up windows for this site".

In addition to IE's pop-blocking feature, various third party browser add-ons (such as the Google or Yahoo toolbars) or anti-spyware/adware software may also prevent pop-ups from opening. Please ensure that you configure these add-ons or programs to allow pop-ups for your domain. If you don't know how to do this you will need to consult the help information supplied by the software vendor.
