Document Settings Explained

"General" tab

  1. Required: In the Title field, enter a short label for the document. This will also be used as the text for the link in the site menu, if the document is set to appear in the menu.
    E.g., "About Us".
  2. Required: In the Long title field, enter a slightly longer and more descriptive title. This will be displayed as the main heading ("Heading 1" style) for the document.
    E.g., "About My Organisation".
  3. Optional: In the Description field, enter a brief description of the contents of the document. E.g., "General information about my organisation, including its objectives and history." This field is used for various purposes; however, it is not essential.
  4. Optional: The Document's alias field may be left empty as the CMS will automatically generate an alias for the document, based on the Title field. The alias is used as a 'search engine-friendly' URL (address) for the page. This feature helps improve search engine indexing of your web pages.
  5. Optional: The Summary (introtext) field may be left empty, unless you are creating an article or news item that will be displayed on a news or article summary page. If this is the case, then you will need to enter a short summary of the article or news item, or perhaps copy and paste the first (small) paragraph of the article or news item.
  6. Optional: The Uses template field should normally be left alone, unless advised otherwise by your web developer. It will be automatically set to the default template.
  7. Optional: The Menu title field can normally be left empty and the CMS will use the contents of the Title field.
  8. Optional: The Menu index field is simply a number that determines the sort order position of the document within its branch of the document tree and menu. You can enter a number here or leave it set to the default number and use the Sort Menu Items function (in the Document Manager module) at a later time to quickly reorder documents.
  9. Optional: The Show in menu checkbox field determines whether or not the document will be displayed in the site menu. If you are creating a new web page that should be displayed in the menu then you will want to leave this option checked.
  10. Optional: The Document parent selection option can be used if you wish to move an existing document to another location in your document tree. Otherwise, you can safely leave this alone.

"Page Settings" tab

  1. Optional: The Container? checkbox is automatically checked or unchecked depending on the context of what you are doing. You can therefore leave this alone, unless you are editing an existing document and you wish to convert it from a container to an ordinary document.
  2. Optional: The Rich text? checkbox can normally be left alone. It determines whether or not the document is to be edited by the rich text editor in the the CMS manager. In most cases, this option will be checked by default.
  3. Ignore: Log visits is a legacy field that is no longer in use and can be safely ignored.
  4. Required: The Published? checkbox should be checked unless you wish to leave the document unpublished until a later date.
  5. Optional: The Publish date field is optional. It can be used to specify a date to automatically publish the document.
  6. Optional: The Un-publish date field is optional. It can be used to specify a date to automatically un-publish the document.
  7. The remainder of the options should normally be left alone, with their default settings applying.
