Uploading files via FTP

Once you have installed and configured an FTP program, you can use it to connect to your site and upload files and folders.

1. Connect to your website via FTP.

In FileZilla, click on the small arrow next to the Site Manager button on the far left of the toolbar (see below), and select your site from the drop-down list.

2. Navigate to the relevant local and remote folders.

The FileZilla interface will have a number of window panes. To display the "Local Treeview" and "Remote Treeview" window panes you need to check that the two toolbar buttons circled below are depressed:

Navigate through the folder hierarchy locally (on your computer) and remotely (on the web server) to find the local file(s) that you wish to upload and the destination folder that you wish to upload to.

3. Upload your file(s).

Simply drag and drop the file(s) from the local file list to the remote file list (or folder) to start the FTP transfer. Alternatively, you can double-click on an individual file or right-click on it and select "Upload". An example of the local and remote window panes in FileZilla is shown below.
