What are feeds and how do I use them?

A feed is a regularly-updated summary of web content, along with links to full versions of that content. When you subscribe to a website's feed by using a feed reader, you'll receive a summary of new content from that website.

You can very quickly and easily view summaries of the latest content from many websites, all neatly organised in one place.

Important: You must use a feed reader in order to subscribe to website feeds. Otherwise, when you click on a news feed link without a feed reader installed, your browser may display a page of unformatted code. (We recommend and use the excellent Google Reader; a free application that runs inside your browser, with no download or installation required.)

What are RSS and Atom?
RSS and Atom are the two feed formats. Most feed readers support both formats.

How do I use news feeds?
To access news feeds first install a feed reader and then look for the RSS, Atom or XML icons/links on any web page that offers a feed. These links will generate a feed of current articles relating to the page that you're looking at.
